This was a fun chapter to read. It was interesting to see Harry part of the fight, needed, but not necessarily leading the fight. Good for Hermione and Padma! I've seen Harry as Ginny's patronus before, quite some time ago, and thought it was as fitting then as now. Any thoughts on Hermione's otter patronus?

Crys replied:

My beta and I spoke about that, actually.   The eventual answer was: A Patronus is a representation of safety / security.   It's a protector.   That's clear on Harry's stag (Prongs) and AD's phoenix.   Cho's swan is a little tougher, but swans are very protective of their nests.   Ron's is a Jack Russell terrier (very smart, small dog) per an interview with JKR.   Tonks, we later learn, became a wolf after she fell for Remus.   In canon, I don't think we know any others except these and Hermione's otter.

Why an otter?   Well, per another JKR interview, she likes otters.   And Hermione is her alter-ego.   So, that one is author's prerogative.   The rest are arguably subconscious protectors of the casters.   That's the logic I used on Ginny's.

They follow up when he's flying quidditch. He's over a couple hundred yards in the air (third year) when flying against Diggory.

Hmm, nice to see that the battle turned out all right, and that Perter got what he deserved overall. Can't wait to see the follow up, and to see what happens next with Voldie, and what this might cause to happen with Harry and his relationships.

The books say that dementors glide not fly. Glide is something that cocks and hens do that is float in the air for a little distance.

Good battle. Interesting to see the DA's organization. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I like having DD report to Harry :D

And it was a VERY nice touch to let Crookshanks get Pettigrew for real this time.

More soon?

When Mrs. Figg is at Harry's trial, there is discussion of Dementors floating, but I don't know about flying. Sorry... what does Lexicon say?

Crys replied:

The problem is that the Lexicon doesn't say one way or the other on whether dementors can fly.   Annoying as that non-answer is . . .   *shrug*

I should think that Harry's Quidditch match in third year would be sufficient evidence that they can fly. I don't recall if the books make mention of how high Harry was flying, but the third movie clearly shows that it was quite high indeed.
I also recall at least one passage with reference to the dementors floating OVER the forbiden forest. would that not be proof as well?

Other than that, I can think of no others, but I am enjoying the story still, and look forward to the next chapter!

Crys replied:

I thought the same thing, but the passage in question clearly states that the dementors are standing and looking up at Harry.

I don't recall a passage where the dementors are floating over the Forest.   When was this?

Either way, thanks for the review.

another really good chapter
evidence that dementors can fly in canon (book) hypothetically the only way they could get near enough to take harry from his broom in year three while snitch chasing is if they were off the ground so circumstancshall (sorry bout spelling bit drunk atm) evidence suggestys they fly. but as i say really good love the story want more

We don't have upperclassmen in UK school, but good chapter.

Crys replied:

Huh.   Okay, what do you call the older students in a multi-year school?   Or isn't there a separate term?

Good chapter,
I reread the whole story again to refresh my mind on what happened already.
Are you going to repair the damage done between Albus and Harry?

This ia a very good chapter. I like the way the D.A. is moving forward with Hermione and the others that are at school. They are doing great even though Harry isn't there with them all the time. Of course Snape had to take credit for the students expertise. Of course we know he had nothing to do with their success.
I'm glad to see that Dumbledore is try to make friends with Harry by giving him a report and respecting his wishes about his part in the battle. Were the 2 under the stands really kissed because they weren't seen by anyone? That is really sad if it is true. All in all a very good chapter. Thanks for writing. I look forward to the next chapter. Thank you for writing. pms

An excellent chapter, with plenty of action. I liked the bits with Minister Abbott and Dumbledore, but my favorite parts have to be Crookshanks capturing Wormtail and Ginny's patronus. Loved those two points.

OUTSTANDING CHAPTER!!!! I love this chapter. Nobody likes death, but why those particular students? I can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter. I noticed that Ginny didn't really have an reaction to Harry and Tonks being together, why? I liked the fact that 12 year old Harry was Ginny's patronus that was very cool and fitting. DO keep up the outstanding work and update soon please:):):):)

Crys replied:

I didn't pick those students for any particular reason.   Random casualties.

Ginny's known about Harry and Tonks since early in the story.   The two of them were bantering back and forth in letters very early and they have a conversation about Harry and Tonks early in chapter 21.

Thanks for reviewing

"Dementors don't run, they glide" -- the trial in book five during the interview with Mrs. Figg.

Ishtar posted a comment on Saturday 27th January 2007 5:36am for 43 - Attack on Hogwarts

Re: Dementors - I went back and checked PoA, because I thought they'd come over the lake, but those scenes describe the dementors coming *around* the lake. Likewise, during the Quidditch scene, they're on the field, not flying above it. So they don't fly, and I have to go back and rewrite part of a story I'm working on. *sigh*

Re: The battle - I have a bit of difficulty with the description of the battle. The Quidditch pitch is to the northwest of the castle, and the entrance to the castle faces west. The Forbidden Forest is east of the castle. There is a very large stretch of open space between the forest and the pitch. Your description of the battle has the forest far too close to the pitch, with the dementors coming out of the forest to directly threaten the students leaving the pitch, and deez in the forest close enough to shoot spells at Harry. (See the maps located at the HP Lexicon - all but one show the Pitch and the Forest in opposite directions from the castle, and the one that doesn't was made well before JKR released her own sketch map.)

Re: Carmen Ryder? Do we watch Japanese superhero series, perhaps? Or is this an unintentional pun?

Crys replied:

Dementors: Um, sorry (?) that you'll have to re-write something, Dorothy.

Pitch and Forest layout: [pause] Damn.   Er . . . yeah. [sheepish shrug]

Carmen Ryder: That name's used somewhere?   If it's a copy, it's inadvertent.
